Internship Overview

As a Customer Relations Associate, you will be responsible for a large number of tasks. You will develop problem-solving skills, learn billing and accounting procedures, numerous computer programs (including Word & Excel), and proper Customer Relations techniques. This position will help build the experience you need to be one step ahead of today’s fast-growing and ever-changing job market. Having a Customer Relations background will benefit you in your future career choices. The Customer Relations Internship is based out of our home office located in Chapel Hill, NC.

Service Internship

As a Service Associate, you will have the unique opportunity of being the first person that our customers speak to when they call. You will also be responsible for processing company mail, researching accounts and performing other daily office tasks including basic letter writing. Each Service Associate will also act as a liaison to our Outside Sales Representatives. This position requires candidates to be personable, articulate and enthusiastic.

Operations Internship

Each Operations Associate will enter, proof, and reconcile contracts daily. You will also be responsible for the deposit and allocation of checks, reconciling daily numbers, and performing other daily office tasks. Operations Associates will assist with phone calls and sales rep questions as well. As an Operation Associate, you will also serve as a liaison to Outside Sales Representatives. This position requires candidates to be detail oriented, organized, and accurate.

Quality Control Internship

Each Quality Control Associate will compare and verify information in our advertising proofs before they are sent to our customers. You will also be responsible for ensuring all information is consistent and follows the same format outlined in our stylesheet. As a Quality Control Associate, you will assist with phone calls and sales rep questions. This position requires candidates to be thorough, detailed, and have excellent follow-through.

Training

Customer Relations training takes place in May and will begin no earlier than May 8th. Training lasts for approximately six business days, are paid, and attendance is mandatory. The sessions will be from 8:30 am until 5:30 pm. You will first be trained on every aspect of the company from customer service to graphics to sales, with heavy emphasis on computer, phone, paperwork and public relations skills. Then you will learn about our database system and your daily and weekly duties. You will also assist in the 2010 sales rep training, attend sessions to gain sales knowledge, and get to know summer sales reps.

Compensation

Wages start at $7.25/hr for training with an increase to $7.50 with the successful completion of training. A mid-summer evaluation based on manager and peer evaluations and overall work performance will determine the possibility of an additional increase. An internship with credit hours towards graduation may be available. Check with your department advisor for details.

Hours

Customer Relations Associates work 40 hours per week; however, during our slower times during the summer, the hours may change. The position begins after May training and lasts approximately 15 weeks. Numerous shifts are available during the day. We observe Memorial Day and Independence Day as unpaid holidays. Fall work is also available and we require fall interns to work a minimum of 10 hours per week.
